Our mission is to support student learning by fostering authentic engagement with the outdoors. We believe in the power of community, providing resources to explore nature and develop a broader experience in literacy, and the importance of stories that highlight its value.
Outreach for the orchard occurs from late-March through October. We begin working with teachers and students when the first thaw of spring comes and continue until fall. During the summer, the MSCO serves as an integral point of destination for other community summer camps and youth groups.

We offer support and resouces that span every grade and subject level for K-12 students and apply to college, as well. This includes the use of online resources and the incorporation of smart technology in the orchard visitation experience. We support coordinated field trips and help facilitate the best orchard experience possible.

The experience and value of volunteering is a fundamental component of good character. Through our outreach and partnerships, we create opportunities so kids see a lasting result of their work. We have observed students returning with their parents and showing them the tree they planted.

The research doesn't lie. Kids are engaged when experiencing and learning about the natural world. There is no subject off limits to the possibilities of this kind of study.

Every tree at the orchard has its own name. We work with teachers and students to give each of these trees a unique story through creative writing and collaboration. This is an ongoing project that we are excited to add to.

Summer is the freedom season. We host a week-long summer camp during the month of July that offers a variety of opportunities for youth ages 6-18 years old.

We offer a variety of outreach and programming through our partnerships with schools and organizations in the community. A sponsorship at the Commuity Harvest Champion level means the MSCO is able to offer all our outreach programming. We rely on the commitment of volunteers and partners to help maintain and improve the orchard at Mary Scott Park. Our costs are calculated on a minimal, but effective budget during the months of April-October.
